Artist & Management Unseen

For some, there can be no better joy than witnessing their favorite artists perform live at an event for the first time. In many ways, this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. As fans, most probably credit the artist for thinking of the great scheme that are display on stage as well as in the media. While the artist should be given some credit for the creativity, fans could be enlightened on the behind the scenes support of the artist manager. The artist manager’s job is very important to the artist because it allows the artist to focus on the job of creating and strength their skills, while the artist manager handles every other aspect of the business. One example, of an artist manager is Peter Asher. Peter has experience in many areas of the music business. He first started in the 60’s as part of a pop duo known as Peter and Gordon. He is also known for becoming an A&R for the beetles’ Apple Record and a producer of acts such as Neil Diamond, Diana Ross, Cher, Linda Ronstadt, and many others.
According to Asher, the role of an strategic artist manager is to assist with current clients and seeking new talent. Asher’s experience as an artist has assisted him in his ability to manage others. When asked, what his opinion was about the changes that had occurred from earlier music business until the world of entertainment today, he said that if depends on the deal. Some of the deals make sense, but the situation of the deal should fit with the objective of the parties in agreement. Unlike day of the old, it is easier to establish a reputation with multimedia without the assistance of the large record label, which allows more flexibility for the artist. The generalization of the music business is a common misconception, which leads to misguided assumptions. Although, Asher has a catalog of experience as VP of Sony Music Group, the presidency of Sanctuary Artist Management, and the currently partners in Strategic Artist Management, he is stills has his hands in the behind the scenes activities that have had a great impact on the outcome of productions.
